I AM ONLY DESCRIBING THE POLITICAL REALITY THAT I SEE AT W&M.

I CAN ACT ON THE BASIS OF SUCH THINGS AS:
  • FACTS ABOUT THE SITUATION ON CAMPUS,
  • INFORMATION ABOUT PRESIDENT ROWE'S VISION 2026 INITIATIVE,
  • ONGOING CONVERSATIONS WITH THE AAUP ON ISSUES FIRST DISCUSSED WITH  THEM SIX YEARS AGO, AND
  • MY KNOWLEDGE OF RECENT COLLEGE HISTORY
  • MY READINGS OF THE INTERESTS OF THE MAJOR ACTORS  AND
  • THE MATERIAL INTERESTS OF THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM & MARY. 

IF THE FACULTY DO NOT BELIEVE I CAN ACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE,
THEIR DISBELIEF CANNOT KEEP ME FROM ACTING SUCCESSFULLY, AS LONG AS MY FACTS ARE RIGHT,
MY UNDERSTANDING IS SOUND AND MY READING OF MATERIAL INTERESTS  IS CORRECT.

NOTHING I MIGHT DO CAN GET IN THE FACULTY' S WAY,
BECAUSE THE FACULTY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. 

The faculty not only lack the experiential basis and knowledge to act as a faculty, they are so bereft of relevant information that they are not making discernible progress toward gaining the knowledge and experience that would enable effective faculty action.
